Oils and serums seem to be everywhere recently, promising to be the extra step in your skin care routine that will make all the difference. ‘Yeah yeah’ you’re thinking, heard it all before. Well yes, I don’t disagree but oil really does seem like the miracle product. Unlike a lot of skincare, it works well for all skin types. It is really hydrating for dry skin and oil is actually really good for oily skin, this may sound counter-intuitive, but it’s true.
So, after hearing oil this, oil that, as the true sucker I am I headed out to go and get some. So I went to where I always go, being the creature of habit that I am. Bobbi Brown, yes you know it. In my opinion there really is nothing that they cannot do, makeup, skincare they ace it all.
So I popped into my local store. Fortunately, or maybe unfortunately for my bank account, they had just realised new ‘remedies’. These are a series of oils with different skin benefits for different skin types or concerns. I have what would probably be described as normal skin, sometimes a bit oily, sometimes dry. So I could not decide which of these I wanted. I ended up opting for two. A hydrating one and a pore and oil control one.
I use both oils every day. In the morning I use the pore and oil control after cleansing and toning, before I moisturise and put my makeup on. This helps to control the oil and keep my makeup in place for longer. I have actually found that this works, I used to have to put a lot of powder on my face to keep my makeup there for even half a day. Now I only put a powder under my eyes to set them and a very small amount on my T-zone and nowhere else. My makeup does not budge, no slipping, no sliding; thanks to this oil. The hydrating remedy I use after taking all my makeup off and cleansing and toning in the evening, before my moisturiser. I use this in conjunction with my night cream for intense hydration. Since using this I wake up with softer, smoother and, I think, clearer skin. For me, these really work; I have been using them for nearly 3 weeks and have barely used any – a little goes a really long way.
These are quite expensive at £30 each but given how little you need, this product will last you a long time and really do what they say on the tin. If you don’t have similar skin to me there are other remedies for different skin issues ranging from redness and irritation to loss of elasticity so there is something for everyone.
Finally, I would like to mention the packaging. Isn’t it beautiful? Well I think so. It looks like old medicine bottles, an apothecary vibe, which I just love. The packaging is also very practical it comes in a small bottle with a dropper so you get just the right amount of product every time and is so easy to use with no wastage.
